Photomicrograph of a longitudinal section of the fulcrum ring at the failed weld.  The fracture profile is along the left edge.  The porosity (black spots) in the weld exhibit a scalloped profile indicative of solidification shrinkage and a weld that was weaker than the surrounding base material.
